Water

Excessive fecal coliform bacteria levels have led to closures of shellfish harvesting areas and swimming beaches. Fecal coliform bacteria are introduced into the marine environment by human activities or by other warm-blooded animals. Bacterial and viral pathogens can also be introduced into the marine environment by poor wastewater management, or by wildlife.
